I started raising pigs in 2009 as a 4-H project and have done so ever since. In 2012 my family started a small pig farm, beginning with 20 bred sows and gilts, when we had trouble finding local show pigs to purchase. That is when my swine education really began as I quickly became involve in the breeding, farrowing, processing of piglets, feed management, facility maintenance, marketing, and customer service aspects of swine production. I also gained a tremendous appreciation for all livestock breeders. In 2016 I won the Utah FFA Swine Production Prficiency Award and in 2017 I won the Utah FFA Diversified Livestock Proficiency Award. I have raised and exhibited pigs, lambs, steers, and goats all over the state with several Grand Champion Market animals and Showmanship titles. I was also chosen as the 2017 Star State Farmer at the Utah FFA Convention this month. I would like to thank the Utah Pork Producers Association for their scholarship and support of my agricultural future.
Hello! I am Brenna Horton.
I look forward to attending Southern Utah University and majoring in Graphic Design. I am a Utah FCCLA State Officer currently serving in the office of 1st Vice President. In addition, I have showcased lambs and goats at the Southwest Junior Livestock Show for four years. Most recently, I was the Reserve Grand Champion in Goat Showmanship. I am proud of the hard things that I have accomplished during my high school career and I look forward to many more challenges afterward that will shape my character, skills, and offering to society.
