UPPA Pork Leadership Ambassador Program

The Utah Pork Leadership Ambassador Program is designed to provide an ambassador with the opportunity to become actively involved in the pork industry. The program will give ambassadors hands on experience in the many facets of pork production and agriculture in the State of Utah. Ambassadors will gain a better understanding of the pork industry, develop and improve communication and leadership skills.

The main goal of the Pork Leadership Ambassador is to promote the Utah Pork Producers Association and the pork industry at various events. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience and develop relationships that will last a lifetime. The ambassador will also receive a $2,500 scholarship upon completing the scholarship requirements and upon showing a current class schedule for a community college, 4-year university, or technical school.

SCHOLARSHIP

The ambassador will receive 2 UPPA branded shirts, training materials,
and will be awarded $2,500 to assist in their pursuit of higher education and learning.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant should have an interest in agriculture and a positive outlook toward animal agriculture.
  • Applicant must be a junior in high school up to a graduate student as of January 1st of the year they will begin the program.
  • Applicant must have a 3.0 grade point and maintain a 3.0 grade point during their tenure as an ambassador.
  • Applicant preferred but not required experience in the pork industry.
  • Applicant must be a resident of Utah.
  • Must have own transportation to or have parents willing to transport to events.
  • Must continue education at a technical school, community college or a 4-year university.
  • If parents are involved in the pork industry, they must be in good standing with the checkoff fund.

JUDGING & SELECTION

Judging and selection will take place during the month of February and March following the deadline of the application process. The Utah Pork Producers Board of Directors will review and select the Pork Leadership Ambassadors. All applicants will be notified by the State Executive Director in the Month of March. Applicants chosen to be leadership ambassadors will begin training in March. All ambassadors will report to UPPA Executive Director. Each ambassador will sign a contract of the duties and responsibilities upon being chosen. All requirements to complete the application must be completed by December 31st of their ambassadorship to receive their monies.

All applicants must complete the following to be considered as an Pork Leadership
Ambassador:

  • Application
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Current Transcript of the school they are attending

DUTIES

The ambassador will be required to attend 5 events throughout the year on the Wasatch Front or as designated by the needs of Utah Pork Producers, attend a virtual training event, provide a bio and picture, and complete the cooking, reading, and reporting requirements from the training.

The following events MUST be attended:

  • 2 days at Farm Field Days that can be chosen from several dates to accommodate school schedule
  • 1 day at the Utah State Fair and participate in Little Hands on the Farm
  • 2 UPPA sponsored events

Other duties include:

  • 1 virtual training session
  • 4 pork recipes cooked and submitted with pictures and recipes by August 1st
  • Reading of 4 required books – each with a 2 paragraph summary, typed, single spaced
  • Writing a “Me in 30 seconds” by April 1st
  • 1 paragraph bio and picture submitted to UPPA by April 1st
  • At the conclusion of the required events, the ambassador will submit a types 1 page, single spaced, essay of the education and leadership skills that they felt they learned while as an ambassador. This essay will be submitted to the Board of Directors.
